1. Agreeing to these terms
By using thegranlife.com you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These terms are between you and Catalyst Living Company, LLC, a Texas limited liability company, doing business as The Gran Life ("The Gran Life," "we," "us").
Section 15 contains an agreement to resolve disputes by individual arbitration and a class action waiver. It affects your legal rights, including your right to bring a claim in court and to participate in a class action. You may opt out within 30 days at no cost. Read Section 15.
2. Who may use this site
You must be at least 18 to use this site, create an account, buy anything, or sign up for email or text messages. The site is intended for visitors in the United States
3. What this site is, and what it is not
This site is educational. It is not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
Alison Richardson holds a Master of Science in Human Development, Educational Psychology, and Communication Studies. She is not a physician, a licensed psychologist, a licensed therapist, or an attorney, and nothing here creates a clinical or professional relationship with you or with any child.
About the developmental content
Everything on this site about child development describes what is typical, not what is required. Developmental milestones are ranges, not deadlines, and two children can reach the same milestone many months apart and both be entirely on track.
Nothing here is a diagnosis, a screening tool, or a way to evaluate whether a particular child is developing normally. If you have a concern about a child, that conversation belongs with the child's parents and the child's pediatrician. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call emergency services.
About family guidance
Suggestions about boundaries, conversations, and family dynamics are general and offered in good faith. They cannot account for your particular family. You decide what to do, and you are responsible for what you decide.
Nothing here is advice about custody, visitation, grandparent rights, or any other legal matter. Those vary enormously by state and require an attorney licensed where you live.
About the quiz
The quiz is a reflective tool, not a validated psychological instrument. It is meant to be useful and a little clarifying. It is not a clinical assessment, and no result implies anything about your fitness as a grandparent or as a person.
4. Purchases
We are not selling anything directly through this site yet. The book and the masterclass are both in development, and the lists you can join are waitlists, not purchases. Joining a waitlist costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
When we do begin selling, purchases will be processed through Shopify, and we will publish the specific terms that apply before anything goes on sale: what you receive, the price, how long access lasts, and our refund and cancellation policy.
5. Affiliate links and how we make money
Some links in the gift guide are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Recommendations are based on what suits a child developmentally at a given age. A commission never determines whether something is recommended, and we do not accept payment for placement.
We are not the seller in those transactions. Anything about price, availability, shipping, returns, or product safety is between you and the retailer.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
This disclosure also appears on the gift guide itself, near the links, because the FTC requires it to be where you will actually see it rather than buried here.
6. Our content
The text, images, videos, quiz, mascots, brand marks, and design on this site belong to The Gran Life or are used with permission, and are protected by copyright and trademark law.
You are welcome to read it, print a copy for yourself, and share links to it. Please do not republish substantial portions, sell it, use it to train machine learning models commercially, or present it as your own. If you want to quote or reference something, a short excerpt with a link back is fine and appreciated.
For anything beyond that, ask: hello@thegranlife.com.
7. What you send us
If you send us a question, a comment, or a story, you keep ownership of it. You give us permission to use it to respond to you, and, in a form that does not identify you, to inform what we write about.
If we ever want to quote you by name or in a way that could identify you or your family, we will ask you first.
Please do not send confidential information, and please do not send photographs of or identifying details about your grandchildren. We do not need them and we would rather not hold them.
8. The Facebook community
The Gran Life Community is hosted on Facebook, which means Meta's terms and privacy policy govern it, not ours. Membership is at our discretion and can be ended at any time, particularly where someone is unkind to other members or shares another member's story outside the group.
What people post in the group is theirs, not ours, and does not represent The Gran Life.
9. Email and text messages
Signing up means you agree to receive the messages you signed up for. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
Text messages are separate and require you to give a mobile number and tick a consent box that is never pre-checked. Consent to texts is never a condition of buying anything or joining any list. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply through your carrier.
The Gran Life SMS messaging
Our text message program is called The Gran Life SMS messaging, and it is operated by Catalyst Living Company, LLC dba The Gran Life. It consists of:
- The Milestone Message. Developmental milestone texts about your grandchild, timed to their age.
- The Gran Date. Monthly activity suggestions for time spent with your grandchild.
- Marketing messages about new offerings, community invitations and updates, sent only to people who separately consented to them.
Consent is collected through two separate optional checkboxes on every form that asks for a mobile number. They are independent: ticking one does not opt you into the other, and you may tick neither. A mobile number is never required to sign up.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply through your mobile carrier. Reply STOP to cancel at any time, or HELP for help. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase.
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
For help with our text messages, contact us at hello@thegranlife.com or +1 (214) 842-9224. How we handle the data behind these messages is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Details are in the Privacy Policy.
10. Using the site properly
Please do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site, scrape it at scale, impersonate anyone, or use it for anything unlawful.
11. No warranties
The site is provided as is and as available. We work hard to make the information accurate and current, but we do not warrant that it is complete, error free, or uninterrupted, and to the fullest extent the law allows we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Some states do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, The Gran Life and Alison Richardson are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
13. Indemnification
You agree to cover our reasonable costs if a claim arises from your misuse of the site or your breach of these terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws rules.
15. Arbitration and class action waiver
Please read this section carefully. It affects how disputes between us are resolved, and it limits the ways you can bring a claim. You may opt out, and doing so costs you nothing.
15.1 Informal resolution first
Most problems can be sorted out with an email. Before starting arbitration, you agree to send a written description of the dispute and what you want to hello@thegranlife.com, and we agree to do the same for you. Both of us will try in good faith to resolve it for 60 days from the date that notice is sent. Neither of us may begin arbitration before those 60 days have run.
15.2 Agreement to arbitrate
If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you and The Gran Life agree that it will be settled by binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except for the claims listed in 15.4. This agreement is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act.
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, before one arbitrator. It may be conducted by documents, by video, or in person in the county where you live, whichever you prefer. The arbitrator decides questions about the scope, validity, and enforceability of this section.
Under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules your filing fee is capped at a modest amount and we pay the remainder of the arbitration costs. The arbitrator can award you the same individual relief a court could.
15.3 Class action waiver
You and The Gran Life agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any class or representative proceeding.
If a court decides that this class action waiver is unenforceable as to a particular claim, then that claim, and only that claim, must be brought in court rather than in arbitration. In no event will class or representative claims be arbitrated.
15.4 What this section does not cover
Nothing in this section prevents either of us from:
- Bringing an individual claim in small claims court, if it qualifies for that court.
- Seeking an injunction or other equitable relief in court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property.
This section also does not apply to any claim that federal law provides may not be made subject to a pre-dispute arbitration agreement. Any such claim may be brought in court regardless of anything in these terms.
15.5 Your right to opt out
You can decline this entire section and keep your right to go to court, including your right to participate in a class action. To opt out, email hello@thegranlife.com with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out," including your name and the email address you use with us, within 30 days of first accepting these terms.
Opting out costs nothing, changes nothing else about your relationship with us, and will not affect the service you receive. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas, and both of us consent to that jurisdiction.
If you do not opt out within 30 days, this section applies.
15.6 If you do not agree to this section
If any part of this section is found unenforceable other than as described in 15.3, the rest of this section still applies. If this section is found unenforceable in its entirety, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the update. If a change is significant, we will tell people on our email list rather than expecting them to check.
17. Everything else
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the site.
